Hooked on Facebook!

My sister is hooked on Facebook. In fact, you can find her always online via mobile. That’s why she’s asking me to help her find samsung mobile batteries. She wants two extra batteries so that she can stay online whatever happens.

I love Facebook because it helps me get connected to friends who are abroad, and those that I don’t see regularly. But I am not that hooked that I want to stay online all the time. But I do think that this is just a phase my sister is going through. I am sure she will get tired of checking her account every few seconds.

Well, I do hope so.

Group of lab techs

They were all wearing Marcus lab coats and talking about technical stuff. I think it was all about lab tests and all that. Nico was looking at them and all the while, as he told me later about it, he was thinking that he wants to become one of them.

Unfortunately for Nico, he couldn’t afford to be in the field of medicine. He and his parents couldn’t afford it. Literally. He is taking up computer studies now and he intends to work as soon as he gets his certificate. He plans to save up so he can pursue further studies… on medicine!

Big in the industries

A former high school classmate of mine is now a big time make up artist locally. He is well-known especially in the local fashion and entertainment industries. I think I, along with almost everyone in our batch, already has an inkling that he will venture into beauty. He used to talk about it all the time.

I am reminded of him because someone I know is interested in getting into the Regency Beauty Institute, a Cosmetology school. That person I know has a goal of becoming big in the fashion industry as well. And the best place to study beauty is at Regency.

Mess around my desk

I should have taken a photo of the mess around my desk to illustrate just how, well, messy my corner had become. Books, papers, magazines, notebooks, receipts… there were too many stuff cluttered around it was an impossible task to tackle when I was still planning on how to go about cleaning my corner. I went a little bit crazy just thinking about it

It was a good thing that I really psyched myself before proceeding with the clean-up. Or else I might have ended giving up after a few minutes of all those dusts and what-nots!

A small change

My sister went home a couple of days ago looking and feeling totally worn out. She told me that her boss ordered sticker printing done for a small misspelled detail that the manufacturer of the box for their new product did. It was a mistake that if they had to send back will most likely take days to finish and since they can’t afford that, her boss thought of using stickers to cover up the error and correct it. My sister and a couple of employees from their department were asked by her boss to stay overnight and help with the sticker labeling. It took them hours to finish because they put stickers on a thousand or so boxes!

I almost left for New York

I almost went to New York. A good friend of mine from college went there to work in a big audit firm. She encouraged me to apply for a visa so that we could probably work together or even rent an apartment together. It would be great and I was so excited to start a new life elsewhere!

But then my mom got sick. I was halfhearted already when I applied for the visa. I was no longer that interested and excited because I knew I couldn’t leave my mom. Sure, I could have probably sent home more money but then I would be away and would have spent less time with her. In the end, I didn’t go. For one, my visa application got denied. And then I knew in my heart I really couldn’t leave my mom, even if more money awaited me.

It was a wise decision. I could have applied after my mom passed away but the old lure of New York or even going abroad is not there anymore. Life is with my family. Life is too short and I don’t want to spend it away from them anymore.

One of my friends in Facebook, a friend from way back in high school, has an online shop that she hooked up in her Facebook account. One of the products she offers is fab rings from different brands. I saw this ring that really caught my eye the first time I saw it. I asked my friend to reserve one stock for me and she said she already did. She will give me a discount and will ship it to me for free! What a great deal, don’t you think?

Now the only thing left for me to do is how to find my ring size. That’s what I need my ring size so that my friend will know if she reserved the right size for me.

My former boss was strict when it comes to stuff that comes her way. For example, the company offered her a vehicle for personal use. It was part of her perks as a director of the company. Do you know she asked for toyota land cruiser custom floor mats for it? She didn’t like the floor mats that came with the car so she asked for new ones. The company paid for it! Along with some other customizations that she demanded.

I was reminded of her because I saw a woman who was screaming her demands over the phone at the mall. Such a demanding woman! In a bad way…

The Family Stone

One of the best movies I’ve watched is The Family Stone. The movie had Claire Danes, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton, Rachel MacAdams and Luke Wilson in it.

An uptight, conservative, businesswoman (SJP) accompanies her boyfriend (Mulroney) to his eccentric and outgoing family’s annual Christmas celebration and finds that she’s a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.

The story was funny and poignant and I just feel that every family should see this one. No matter who you are or whatever you are, the only people who will accept you wholeheartedly at the end of the day is your family.
